This week’s topic is all about what are cosmetics, when I thought this topic, but it’s wasn’t, so let’s get straight into it…

 

Cosmetics are products people use to cleanse or change the look of the face or body. Cosmetic products include: skin creams, lotions, fragrance, lipstick, fingernail polishes, eye and face makeup, permanent waves, hair dyes, toothpaste and deodorants.

 

EYE AND FACIAL PRODUCTS

Eye and facial makeup products are products that are used to color and highlight eye and facial features. They can either directly add or alter color, or can be applied over foundation making the color even and smooth.

EYE MAKEUP

Eye makeup products include products that are used around the eye to enhance the appearance of the eyes and emphasize the beauty of the eyes. They include such products as eye-shadow, eye-liner, eye-brow products, and other products that can use to enhance and accent the eyes.

HAIR CARE

Hair care products are those that help to control the properties and behavior of the hair so that it can be maintained in a controlled and desirable manner. This can include hair conditioners, hair spray, hair straighteners, and relaxers, permanent waves, shampoos, rinses, tonics and dressings

PERMANENT WAVES

Permanent waves are treatment of the hair intended to produce curls or alter exciting curls. In cosmetology, it is termed a type of curl reformation.  

 

SHAMPOOS AND RINSES

Shampoo and rinses are products that are intended to cleanse the hair. Rinses are intended to help condition the hair after shampooing. Some formulations are shampoos and rinses in the product.

 

HAIR STRAIGHTENERS AND RELAXERS

Hair straighteners and relaxers are products that make the hair becomes straight or to relax tightly curled hair to soften or loosen curls.

HAIR SPRAYS

Hair spray products are quick-drying liquids sprayed in the hair to keep it in place. They contain ingredients that stick to the hair and hold it in place for a short period of time.

TONICS AND DRESSING

Tonics and dressings are products that are intended facilitate combing and styling of the hair. They can be applied directly to the hair or by application to the brush or comb.

HAIR CONDITIONERS

Hair conditioners are used to make hair smooth and silky. They help by replacing materials, such as naturals oils, lost during washing.

Hair color preparation are products that either reduce color of hair, such as hair bleaches, or products that add color to attain a desirable affect. This can be achieved either with materials that are temporary and only last a few days, to products that last several weeks.

Their safety is established through the testing of individual as well as the other ingredients that are used to formulate the product.

NAIL PRODUCTS

Nail products are products that are used to color the nail, to protect them against damage, to soften and condition cuticle, and to supplement the nails. They include nail polish and enamels and nail polish and enamels removers.

NAIL POLISH

Nail polishes (also called lacquers or enamels), base coats, top coats, nail hardeners, and nail treatments re coating applied to the nail plate to provide a pleasing look and o address specific nail plate condition, such as soft, peeling or brittle nails. Polish removers are designed to soften polishes, treatments, or hardeners so that the coating on the nail can easily remove. Ingredients used in polish removes can include acetone, ethyl acetate, and isopropyl alcohol.

 

MANICURE AND PEDICURE

Manicure and pedicure products are designed to cleanse, exfoliate, exfoliate and moisturize hands and feet. They may contain a large variety of ingredients. Many products have multiple functions and may fall into more than one category. The major categories are as follows: Soaks are designed to cleanse and soften skin nails in preparation for the rest of the manicure or pedicure service. These products serve on of three main functions: 1) to exfoliate living skin, 2) to remove dead skin from the nail plate, and/or 3) condition and moisturize the living skin around the nail area. The ingredient typically used in this category have a long history of safe use.

ORAL CARE PRODUCTS

Oral care products are intended tocleanse the oral cavity, freshen thebreath, and maintain good oral hygiene. Some products also include ingredients to protect against the formation of cavities.  

TOOTHPASTES

Toothpaste are pastes, powder, liquid, or other preparations intended for cleaning the teeth. If the product is also intended to prevent the formation of cavities (carries), then it is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration as an Over-The-Counter drug (OTC).

MOUTHWASHES AND BREATH FRESHENERS

Mouthwashes are used for cleaning and freshening the mouth and oral hygiene. Antiseptic and anti-plaque mouth rinses kill germs that cause plaque, gingivitis, and bad breath. Anti-cavities and that kill the germs that case bad breath is regulated as Over-The-Counter products by the Food and Drug Administration. These products must be shown to be safe and effective according to the standards set by FDA.

TIPS

Some personal care products are easy to make yourself, and this can be a great project for a party. Make your own sugar or salt scrubs or body oils, using simple, organic ingredients.

Since the beauty industry is largely unregulated, it’s up to you to do your own research to find out the safest products. There are no legal standards for personal care products labeled as “pure”, “natural” or “organic”, so look beyond the marketing claims and read labels carefully.

What are the methods of permanent hair removal?

This week’s topic is all about methods of permanent hair removal…

Although permanent hair removal service are not offered in salons, it is useful to know the options that exist. Permanent hair removal methods include electoepilation (light-base hair removal), and laser hair removal.

ELECTROLYSIS

Electrolysis is the removal of hair by means of an electric current that destroy that growth cells of the hair. The current is applied with a very fine, needle-shaped electrode that is inserted into each hair follicle. This techneique must only be performed by a lincensef electrologist.

PHOTOEPLIATION

Photoepilation uses intense light to destroy the growth cells of the hair follicles. This treatment has mininmal side effects, required no needles, and thus mimimizes the risk of infection. Clinical studies have shown that photoepliation can provide 50 to 60 percent clearance of hair in 12 week’s. This method can be administered in some salons be cosmotologists and estheticians, depending on the state law. Manufacturers of photoepilation equipment generally provide the special training necessary for administering the procedure.

LAZER HAIR REMOVAL

Lasers are another method for rapid removal of unwanted hair. In laser hair removal, a laser bean is pulsed on the skin, impairing hair growth. It is most effective when used on follicles that are in the growth or anagen phase.

The laser method was discovered by chance when it was noted that bithmarkes treated with certain types of laser become permanently devoid of hair. Leader are not for everyone; an abousolute requirement is that one’s hair must be darker that the surrounding skin. Coarse, dark hair responds to the best to laser treatment. For some clients, this method produces permanent hair removal. For other clients, laser hair removal treatments simply slow down regrowth.

Laser hair removal is more than just “zapping” unwanted hair. It is a medical procedure that requires training to perform an carrieds potentional risk. Before getting laser hair removal, you should thoroughly check the credentials of the dotors or technician performing the produre.

If you are planning on undergoing laser hair removal, you should limit plucking, waxing, and electrolysis weeks before treatment. That’s because the laser targets the hairs’ root, which are temporarily removed by waxing or plucking.

You should also avoid sun exposure for six weeks before and after treatment. Sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and makes complications after treatment more likely.

Eyebrow pencils or eye shadows are use to add colour and shape the eyebrows, usually after tweezing, shaving, threading or waxing. They can be used to darken the eyebrows, correct their shape, or fill in sparse area. Brow powders are similar to pressed eye shadows, and are applied to the brows with a brush. Brow powder cling to the eyebrow hairs, making the eyebrow appear darker and fuller.

The chemistry of eyebrow pencils is similar to that of eyeliner pencil. The chemical ingredients in eyebrow shadows are also similar to those in eye shadows.

When choosing a brow pencil, it’s not just about matching your hair colour. It’s also about your skin tone and eye colour.

“If your skin tone has pink in it, you don’t want to match exactly to your hair colour or else it will look orange. So you want to go for something a little ashy,” advises Madron.

“For brunettes, the general rule is to stay within one to two shades rages of your hair color. If you have light hair with light eyes, pick a darker tone to define. If you have dark eyes, it’s always safer to go slightly lighter,”   says Madron.

People with black hair seem to think they need to find an exact match, but that tends to look drawn-on and fake. Try a cool, medium-brown instead,” she Madron.

If you’re a blond, you don’t want to look mousy. If you have light skin and eyes, match to the base tone of your hair. This will provide get definition and, more importantly, make you look awake. If you match to the lightest part of your hair, you will look tired and washed-out.” She said.

If you’re albino, depending on the amount the person has, they may have very pale hair, skin and eyes, although some people with albinism can have brown or ginger hair. You can use a brown pencil or a brown shadow to colour in the eye, choose eye brow colour base on the the fairness of your skin and colour of your eyes. Stay within one or two colour shade range of your color. If you have white hair with light eyes, pick a darker tone to define. If you have dark eyes, it’s always safer to go slightly lighter.

TIPS

If you have a lot of brow hair, try to match the eyebrow colour as closely as possible. If you have sparse hair: dark haired people should go one or two shades lighter than the colour of hair on their head. For light haired people go two shades darker than the colour of hair on your head.

Fill eyebrow.

Fill in your eyebrow with lash – like feathery strokes where there are spaces, use an eyebrow pencil or and angle brush with eyebrow powder or gel.

I recommend leaving any major eyebrow shaping to the professionals. Better yet, bring a screenshot of the face shape that the closest to your own, and ask your technician to mirror the appearance.

SHORTER AND FULLE

A rather rare genetic mutation results in a condition known as heterochromia, where either one complete iris or partial portion of the iris tends to have a different colour from the other iris, or the rest of the iris. Heterochromia is a Greek word for differences in iris, skin and hair colour. Heteros means different and chroma means colour.

 In case of complete heterochromia, one entire iris has a different colour tone from the other iris.

Whereas, in Sectoral/Partial Heterochormia, a small portion of one iris has different pigmentation than the rest of portion. It is a result of the relative excess of lack pigment within an iris or part of an iris, which may be inherited or acquired, by disease or injury. This uncommon condition usually results due to uneven melanin content. A number of causes are responsible, including genetic, such as chimerism, Horner’s syndrome and Waardenburg syndrome.

What is chimerism?
