The use of eye shadow attempts to replicate the natural eye shadow that some women exhibit, due to a natural contrasting pigmentation on their eyelid.

Metallic finish is quite similar to frost finishes, and can be found in both eye shadows and lipsticks. The main difference between frost and metallic is the tone of the reflective quality. Where frosts tend to have more of an opalescent or icy shimmer  to them, metallic seem to have underlying gold or silver shimmer to give a more foiled effect.

Mineralized eye shadow are the Marmite of the makeup world. You either love them or hate them. Mineralize eye shadows are baked rather than pressed, and they have a completely different texture than normal eye shadow. They tend to be sheered, and glittered. Applied dry, they aren’t all that great. Mineralize eye shadow come to life when they’re applied damp, using a foiling technique.

TIPS

There are a number of ways to make your eye shadow last longer. Firstly you could apply some loose or pressed powder to your eyelids before application to help set the eye shadows (this works particularly well for powder and cream eye shadows). Some brands sell special cream makeup bases which can be used to set all types of eye shadow. Another way to make your eye shadow last longer is to layer it by applying a cream or crayon eye shadow underneath a powder eye shadow.
